16. August 2013

The Federal President Dr. Heinz Fischer visited with his wife Margit on August 16, at the invitation of Dr. Peter Maria Schuster, the exhibition "Radiation - the exposed human" and the Victor F. Hess Research and Memorial Center at echophysics, the European Center for the History of Physics, in Pöllau. Also the mayor Johannes Schirnhofer, the member of parliament Wolfgang Böhmer, the deputy mayor Günther Gaugl and Dr. Lily Wilmes, wife of Dr. Peter Maria Schuster were guided by Dr. Peter Maria Schuster through the museum.

The Federal President was very interested in Austria's significant contributions to modern physics, which are documented here in German and English, and was particularly surprised by the large number of historically valuable devices, which can be presented to the public here for the first time, illuminating their significance and aesthetics.

Mrs. Margit Fischer, who also speaks Swedish, translated the Nobel Prize certificate of our only Styrian Nobel Prize winner in physics, Victor Franz Hess, which like his entire private estate has found a home here at Echophysics.

It was the first visit of a federal president to Pöllau since 1924.
